26.05.23 - Bergen to Oslo

Today is another travel day, this time from Bergen to Oslo. You can take a train between the two cities, but since the ride would be about 7 hours and sitting on a train for that long is definitely not our preference, we're flying. It's about a 45-minute journey instead. Although you then have to deal with the airport and all the transportation to-and-from...so there's that.

Bergen airport is actually quite nice so it's an easy place to wait for your flight. It's a foggy day and the airport is socked in. But aside from a little turbulence, the flight is easy and you're landing before you know it!

Arriving in Oslo, we decided to take the Flytoget train per the hotel's recommendation. It's the more expensive option compared to the regional train, but since the hotel recommended this route, we figure it's best to follow that advice since we're unfamiliar. Turns out today is not a good day to arrive in Oslo...we purchase our train tickets and go through the turnstiles, only to the be turned around and told we're taking a bus. Unbeknownst to us, the Flytoget train is not operating today. But was there any kind of notice? Nope. All the signs in the airport advertised the service and the ticket machine didn't mention anything. So only after paying for the expensive tickets were we told we're taking a bus. This is definitely not the experience you want to have upon arriving in a new city. Especially when you're not given any details other than everyone repeating "bus" to you.

I suppose on the plus side, the bus we were shuffled off to was quite comfortable. But another downside is it only stops at the city center. We purchased a ticket to the National Theatre station closer to our hotel. No one tells us how we need to get to our final destination, only that city center is the final stop. Again, very bad service in not informing anyone of what's going on or how their journey will need to modify. We ended up googling if our tickets would work to catch a separate train at city center and how to get there. All in all, it was a very frustrating experience.

After all that, we finally make it to our hotel and find out it's the day of the UEFA Women's Championship Final between Barcelona and Lyon. Plus, it's a holiday weekend. Go figure.
