26.05.21 - Flåm to Bergen

Today we head back to Bergen. It was a nice stay in Flåm and I very much enjoyed our time here.

Now to brave the Flåmsbana back to Myrdal. It is once again a mad rush to board the train. It's amazing how people completely disregard common decency when boarding this train and I don't think I'll understand the attitude of shoving your way to the front just to run to a seat. We manage to board with all our limbs still attached and with seats close to the door. Our connection to the Bergen Line is a very short five minutes, which in my head basically means zero minutes.

The ride down to Myrdal is just as beautiful as the ride up to Flåm. Mountains, ravines, rivers and waterfalls galore. And as we climb up the mountain, we start to see more and more snow. Arriving at Myrdal, we waste no time grabbing our bags and crossing the platform to board the Bergen Line. I was worried we'd have a tight connection, but our next time pulls into the station right after we get to the opposite side of the platform. The timing worked out perfectly! But boy, you definitely can't dawdle. The trains depart quickly after arriving so we hop on and make our way to our (thankfully) reserved seats. As with the previous leg of the train, the views are fantastic even with a foggy day like today.

Arriving at Bergen, we return to Opus XVI which is an easy 10-minute walk from the train station.

Dinner

~ Siam Ratree Thai Restaurant

Øvregaten 2B, 5003 Bergen, Norway

  • Poe Pea Pak (spring rolls)

  • Phad Prik Kaeng Daeng (red curry)

  • Phad Thai Pak (pad thai)

  • Phad Phak Med Ma Muang (stir-fried veggies in sauce)

We were out for a walk and stumbled upon this place! A casual Thai restaurant with very tasty food. All our choices were vegetarian. The spring rolls were very light and crispy, with plenty of filling. The stir-fried veggies in sauce was my favorite; the sauce was so good!

Snacks

~ En Smule Bedre

Nedre Korskirkeallmenningen 8, 5017 Bergen, Norway

  • Hazelnut

  • Tiramisu

  • Cheesecake

  • Salted caramel

When you want a little something after dinner, can't beat ice cream! This ice cream truck is parked very conveniently right behind our hotel and does ice and waffles. We only got gelato, but others in front of us ordered waffles and it smelled so good.
