26.05.15 - Copenhagen

Today saw us walking from our apartment in Charlotte Ammundsens Plads to Nyhavn, which is along a canal and gives views of quintessential Denmark. This area is definitely more touristy, but a nice walk nonetheless.

On the way back we dropped into Magasin, a department store like the equivalent of what you'd go to in Japan (but much smaller scale and no basement food center). I happily found my favorite non-alcoholic gin - Tanqueray 0.0 - which is unfortunately only available in Europe, so it was a shopping win!

Near our apartment is a place called TorvehallerneKBH, a food marketplace with many different shops and stalls selling a variety of items from flowers to sandwiches and beer. Many of our foods today came from this place! Can't beat the convenience and selection.

Breakfast

~ Albatross & Venner

Torvehallerne KBH

  • Ham and cheese

  • Frangipane

  • Chocolate babka

All the pastries were absolutely amazing! The ham and cheese was especially delicious, probably the best I've had anywhere!

Lunch

~ Rørt Torvehallerne

Torvehallerne KBH

  • Ingrid In Spring - Ingrid pea hummus with roasted onions, pickled onion, cabbage, chimichurri

  • Ferm Tun - tuna salad with miso, cabbage, fermented chili sauce, sesame coriander

  • One Lucky Potato - new potatoes, chive mayo, fried onion, cress

We tried this place for its smørrebrød, which is an unpronounceable way to say "sandwich"...and I would say smørrebrød is waaaaaay overrated and definitely not worth the hype. The Ingrid In Spring was actually pretty tasty, but Ferm Tun and One Lucky Potato were disappointing. They look better than they taste. But at least I can say I tried it!

Snacks

~ Mochi Time

Torvehallerne KBH

  • Yuzu and raspberry (orange)

  • Matcha (green)

  • 70% dark chocolate (brown)

Couldn't resist getting some ice cream mochi! The yuzu was especially strong which I very much liked, but didn't get much raspberry (which I was good with because raspberry is not a fav flavor). The matcha tasted like a true matcha and the chocolate was like a creamy hot chocolate. Yummy all around!

~ Glean

Torvehallerne KBH

  • Yuzu

  • Sun berry

  • Licorice

  • Coconut

These are flødeboller, chocolate covered marshmallow. The marshmallow is so light inside! Much lighter than I was expecting, but the flavors really pop. Gotta say, licorice was my favorite!

Dinner

~ Indian Bites

Pustervig 4, 1126 København, Denmark

  • Butter chicken

  • Chana masala

  • Naan

  • Samosas

Everything was delicious! The butter chicken was amazing and the chana masala with the yogurt sauce was so tasty (with a spicy kick!).
