25.11.25 - Asakusa & Surugadai

Updated: Dec 2, 2025

Today's agenda is mostly omiyage acquisition. Dad hangs back to watch a football game, so Mom and I head back over to Asakusa to the confectionary store Mametoku. They have such an interesting selection of flavored nuts and beans, and in smaller packaging for easy gifting. We also hop in a few souvenir stores but not much luck.

On our way out of Asakusa, we stop at Maccha House for iced matchas before continuing on. This is a newer location so there were only a couple tables taken when we stepped in. Nothing mind-blowing, but tasty and just what we needed in the moment.

Now to head to Daco to pickup lunch. I didn't realize the company behind I'm Donut? had other stores so if course when I found out I had to go try this place - and there is a store just one stop away from where we're staying. Score! This location is Daco Ochanomizu and it's located near Chuo University. This area is so pretty! Makes me want to go back to school and study abroad just to stay right on this area. Daco has a selection of plain breads, sweet things and savory sandwiches. We grab a selection of savory and sweet, I feel like you can't go wrong with anything you pick. The tasty treats were delicious and totally worth the train ride to get them.

Flavors: caramel and camembert, something with sun-dried tomato and sprouts, burger, ham and cheese, curry and cheese

After a brief siesta, we decide to check out Ecute Shopping Mall up near Ueno Park. I didn't even realize this was there! Mom wants to look for L'Occitaine lotion and they have a store here. She tries on almost all the scents and of course at this point cannot smell any differences so she grabs a limited edition scent. Lotion acquired, now to try and find jinbei at the department store (I've read they're called 'old man summer pajamas' but since Mom wants some we're not gonna call them that). No such luck with the jinbei, but Google says to find them at street vendors or even online so there's hope still yet.

Dinner is from the department store basement again. Can't help it, their food is good.

Sayonara!
